How To Start A Children’s Book Club

Book Club

In today’s fast paced, technology driven life its a sad thing to notice that many children do not know the pleasure of reading a good book. Reading is slowly becoming only something you have to do in school and not something you want to do every chance you get. The instant gratification of a movie seems to be appealing that reading a book for a week. But as any true lover of reading knows; the book is always better than the movie.

The instant gratification of a movie is more appealing that reading a book for a week. But as any true lover of reading knows; the book is always better than the movie.

Here are a few tips to help you start a book club for children.

  1. Start small and don’t be concerned with numbers. A small group of children who are interested in reading is all you need.

  2. Provide a variety of genres. Let them read what they want to read and not what you want them to read.

  3. Don’t underestimate their reading level. You’ll be surprised at how advanced a child’s reading level can be when they want to read.

  4. Make the meetings fun and ‘cool’. Don’t make them reminiscent of school.

  5. Set reading goals and stick to them.
