Green Days by the River was a great coming of age story. The characters seemed very similar to how teens would be at that time; enjoying simple country life but still being guided by their hormone.
I love a good twist, and that indeed happened at the end of the book, in two of Shell’s major relationships. Poor Shell was blindsided. His reaction to his future being decided for him was a little strange to me; however, I understood that he was not thinking of himself.
Green Days by the River has been taught in Trinidad and Tobago schools for decades. It is a great Caribbean classic that would never go out of style.
